Lookbook

This year the Australian beauty community was devastated when they found out that Laura Mercier was going to be discontinued from Australian beauty shelves all across the country. As you probably might know if you are a makeup fan that Laura Mercier has a setting powder that many Youtubers and beauty bloggers rave about, called the Laura Mercier translucent loose setting powder. This setting powder is often claimed as the holy grail of setting powders.

It is proclaimed to have a smooth application, which goes on the skin evenly, blends effortlessly and provides great wear. It sets your makeup for 12 hours without adding weight or texture. It’s a Finley milled powder which claims to have no flash back which is absolutely perfect for photos and creates a soft focus effect that blurs the look of fine lines and imperfections. Sounds perfect right?

TAKE MY COINS LAURA…

So with this hype you know I just had to grab myself one and see what everyone was talking about. I was excited to try it so I bought myself my first ever Laura Mercier translucent loose setting powder, from Sephora in October 2017. The main reason that I bought this setting powder was because I have a severe case of oily skin. I needed a powder that would hold back the oil throughout the day so I can enjoy my makeup applications.

For a very long time I had been using my Mac compact powders but I was in need of change and I was hoping I could find everything I needed in the Laura Mercier translucent loose setting powder. I wanted to add another technique called baking to my make-up skills and be able to do it like the pros. So this was definitely a must! Now at first I was a little scared of the colour of the setting powder because it was white. Literally ghost white. I was a little hesitant at first but I soon came to learn that the powder itself was friendly to those of us with a little extra melanin. When wearing Laura Mericer’s Translucent setting powder ashiness is something that you don’t have to worry and you don’t have to worry about having flash back in your pictures which was a win!

LAURA MERCIER WAS THE PLUG….

Those beauty guru’s and beauty bloggers were not lying about this product it does everything that it claims to do! I was shocked at how smooth my skin felt when I set my make up with this powder. I was able to wear my make-up with confidence that I wouldn’t look like a deep frier in less than 3 hours. The claims of this product were so true.

The only issue was that it didn’t prevent my makeup from creasing in my smile lines. But that’s something that a little primer can fix! The Setting powder lasted me a whole year as I was nearing the end I was 100% convinced that this powder was going to be forever in my makeup bag until…

IT WAS ALL GONE

To my surprise when I was ready to give all my coins to Laura I found out that all products had been discontinued from every single store in Australia I was devastated. I was shattered. I was recently introduced to a new product called the Huda Beauty Easy Bake Setting Powder. Sometime in July Huda Beauty released a line of 8 setting powders for all skin tones, under tones and skin types. It’s meant to create an airbrushed, long lasting complexion while blurring the appearance of pores and fine lines, and holding makeup in place all day long. The powders are said to work to subtly colour correct and highlight different contours of the face, leaving a translucent veil of colour on your skin, so you can bake, without the cake.

As a woman of colour I would recommend you try Kunafa if you’ve used the Ben nye Banana Powder then you will love this shade. I have only worn it twice and it’s lived up to its claim.

So not to worry if you loved Laura Mercier you will definitely love the Huda Beauty and its more affordable retailing at $55.00 AUD. You can find this setting powder long with Huda’s other products at any Sephora’s closest to you. Just a disclaimer if you don’t like make up that has fragrance then maybe this isn’t for you. But if you want to slay and be flawless this is definitely the setting powder for you!
